Winchester City Council will be considering a fare increase in the Fiscal Year 2025 Winchester Transit operating budget.
As a result of the federal CARES Act and ARPA funds received in response to COVID-19, Winchester Transit has been fare free since July 2020. Fares charged prior to July 2020 were $1.00 per trip. All fares are used to offset Winchester Transit operating expenses.
The proposed transit fare schedule is as follows:
| Service Type | Fare Amount (One-Way Trip) |
| WinReady (Microtransit and Paratransit) | $1.50 |
| Loop Route | $1.00 |
| Loop Route Half Fare* | $0.50 |
| Laurel Ridge Community College Route | $2.00 |
| Laurel Ridge Community College Half Fare* | $1.00 |
| Students/Children Under 17** | Free |
*Half Fare is applicable to the Loop Route and Laurel Ridge Community College fixed routes only and are available to Medicare card holders, individuals over 65, and individuals with disabilities. Please note that individuals who meet the requirement for Half Fare must have a Half Fare bus pass issued by Winchester Transit. Half Fare is not applicable to WinReady.
**Children/students under 11 years of age must be accompanied by an adult on all modes.
Initially, fares for WinReady can be paid for by credit card or debit card on the WinReady app, or by cash on the bus. Fares for the Loop Route or Laurel Ridge Community College Route must be paid for with cash at the time of boarding. When paying cash, trips must be paid in exact fare as drivers will not be able to make change. Winchester Transit staff will be exploring additional methods for payment that may be implemented in the future.
