All Vestavia residents are aware of the issues along Highway 31 corridor, to the South end of the city. With the proposed development near the gateway to the city at the location, our city leaders should actively develop a plan that updates & protects these properties from future rain events from causing extensive damage like has happened in the past. On a different note, there are multiple utility easements throughout the city that are not adequately maintained by the appropriate managing authority (APCO, Spire, BWWB, AT&T, Spectrum, etc.). The lack of maintenance of these easements impacts Vestavia Hills residents & their properties both directly & indirectly with surface run-off and debris buildup throughout the city. City officials should require all utility providers to properly maintain & develop comprehensive plans to ensure our residents properties are not impacted by these large corporations both in terms of physical damage, nor financial value of the properties.

Vestavia has ignored stormwater issues for decades and our city is slowing crumbling into storm drains and pot holes. Driving down 31, you can see several examples of drainage and flooding issues that have not been addressed. In addition, private homeowners are asked to fix infrastructure that is the city’s responsibility (specifically Mountain Woods Drive/neighborhood).

What is the plan for the major flooding that happens at the south end of highway 31 by Mark’s sports and diplomat deli? The drainage from the north side of 31 and the drainage from the direction of Columbiana road intersect at this point. It has caused major flooding to many businesses and apartments for many years from that drainage intersection all the way to Royal automotive and further. The city knows that it’s such a bad problem that any new business that wants to build in that stretch has to build their foundation up multiple feet for the city to allow it. The city will offer tax cut incentives to these businesses for doing so. Why not address the issue and try to fix the problem? The city constantly deflects any kind of blame and never a solution. This big flood plan only solves issues in small neighborhoods and not for the businesses that pay millions of dollars in taxes to the city. When does the city plan to address this issue?

Today Vestavia city schools went back to school after an extended break due to weather of various forms. This particularly cold streak has not been a surprise from a forecasting standpoint yet there are several classrooms throughout the school system specifically elementary classrooms at Dolly ridge (perhaps more that I am not aware of) that do not have heat today. I know hvac system updates for most campuses were included in a bill that did not pass last year, but that does not excuse lack of proper maintenance or updates to the campuses in most need. Budgeting should be allowed for this type of thing for our schools and should be prioritized. Is there any information in the status of these reports? We should not have to cancel school for temps in the 30s nor should our kids have to sit in unheated classrooms. Is there any meeting coming up where this can be discussed? I would like to attend to listen to the plans to prevent this in the future. Winter is just beginning. Thank you.

The city is again denying people even a single warming station in the third night of below freezing temperatures. Shame on the un-Christian people of Vestavia Hills who turn their backs on the unhoused. More people will die tonight, and the so-called good Christian reading this will still do nothing to help. Yes. You.

When a tax referendum comes up again think about the ENTIRE population in Vestavia. Maybe include a tax break for retirees.

In what area of Vestavia Hills do you reside? West (zoned for VH Elementary West)
What are your thoughts? Love the vision? Prefer that the area stays the same? Or just have a comment? I love the vision. HWY 31 has been an eyesore from the Interstate for as long as I can remember. With 31 being a state highway I do not see that area becoming a walkable community, so I believe the most cost effective way to enhance the area is to partner with developers to incentive them to come to the area. I do believe that Columbiana Road should be on the City's radar for improvements as well. I believe landscape medians to narrow the road will encourage slower traffic especially by the school. I also think the development where Encompass Health is also a waste of space. That area would be an awesome mixed use space with restaurants and retail. Having sidewalks and or bike lanes along Columbiana Road would also be a plus.

What are your thoughts? Love the vision? Prefer that the area stays the same? Or just have a comment? I love the idea of making the gateway into Vestavia more attractive, something that really stands out. These renderings (or something similar) accomplish that. I also love the idea of mixed-use/green space areas with commercial/retail/office use in this area. I'm in favor of anything to improve connectivity, cohesiveness, and create aesthetically pleasing developments along 31, as it currently consists of random, disconnected, unappealing developments (the Days Inn site, the AT&T building, the Red Roof Inn, the vacant lot near the animal clinic, the Old Towne development, Park South Plaza).. there's no real sense of identity along this corridor.
Additionally, the idea of a bridge (or tunnel) to connect Wald Park to the Library should be explored. This would allow for citizens to access all the amenities in the area without having to drive, field trips to the library from the school, safe access across 31, additional routes for exercising outdoors, etc.

What are your thoughts? Love the vision? Prefer that the area stays the same? Or just have a comment? The old Days Inn area is currently an eyesore and needs to be revamped. It is the first impression many see when first arriving to Vestavia off I-65 exit. I like the idea of a shared space as depicted in the artist's rendering. Trussville has a great new city center area with vendor spaces encircling large common areas. The rendering depicts something similar which I think could be a really nice addition to our city and a much more appropriate way for visitors to first experience Vestavia.

What are your thoughts? Love the vision? Prefer that the area stays the same? Or just have a comment? I love the idea. Downtown Trussville is booming. It is family friendly, fun, and brings in a lot of money. I would love to see something similar with a brewery, local restaurants, boutique style retail, green space, and a stage for concerts.
