What does the school division do well in providing for school safety and security?
Trained Security Assistants and Police Officers in each school. Provide funds for cameras. On site visits to assist schools with improvements.
What gaps exist regarding school safety and security that need to be addressed?
We need more cameras ( one per every exit door; more stationary cameras; cameras at school drive in entrances/exits to each campus). More Security staff with digital radios. Many schools have drop off/pick-up lanes in front of each school and visitor parking near Administrative entrances to each school. Drop-off and pick-up lanes should be eliminated except at elementary schools. All non-staff parking should be moved away from Admin entrances to provide a buffer zone.
What new resources can be added or what existing resources can be used in different ways to strengthen school safety and security?
Grants from federal agencies and partnerships with corporations to obtain more state of the art security equipment. We should be thinking 5 years ahead rather to reacting to past or present issues.
