What does the school division do well in providing for school safety and security?
The only safety that I see in the schools today are I.D checks prior to releasing children and doors are closed and locked during instructional time.
What gaps exist regarding school safety and security that need to be addressed?
School doors are unlocked and anyone can walk in, the person at the front desk can do very little to stop a threat entering the school. When speaking to my middle school child, he has been told what to do if a threat is announced while in class but not what to do if he is in the hallways changing classes.
What new resources can be added or what existing resources can be used in different ways to strengthen school safety and security?
Having armed resources officers/police/sheriff/veterans allowed on premises at all times. This is a proactive measure to deter threat vs a reactive measure of knowing what to do when a threat occurs. Even if it isn't every day, having a rotating schedule would make it a lot harder for someone to know when our kids are sitting ducks.
