What does the school division do well in providing for school safety and security?
Front desk check in and scanning photo ID
What gaps exist regarding school safety and security that need to be addressed?
Stop using portables — they stand isolated and are easily accessible to intruders. TES all portable school: Two SRO is not enough in a situation of 43 portables sitting in an open field backed up to North Hampton Blvd. How about armed Va Beach police officers standing guard. How will an SRO keep kids safe in a situation of unauthorized access to multiple portable units at once?? What safety barrier will be in place alongside North Hampton Blvd, that is more than just a fence? Traffic safety hazards with arrival and dismal: a 30 minute time slot in between the two schools is not enough time to dissipate traffic and avoid chaos / risk of safety. Tornado, fire, emergency evacuation plans are not at all satisfactory. Saving money over prioritizing children’s safety is where the first correction should be made.
What new resources can be added or what existing resources can be used in different ways to strengthen school safety and security?
All locked doors / Buzzer system with method of ID scan before allowing visitors inside building.
