What does the school division do well in providing for school safety and security?
The new automated ID checks and photo printed name tags was a good idea.
What gaps exist regarding school safety and security that need to be addressed?
There is no consistency from school to school. One particularly disturbing practice is the arrows pointing to the single, unlocked door at the front of buildings. I thought the idea of just one unlocked door was to slow down potential criminals. Not every school keeps classroom doors locked. The standards are very different.
What new resources can be added or what existing resources can be used in different ways to strengthen school safety and security?
I would be willing to pay more in taxes to invest in an automated system with a controlled and locked vestibule at the front of buildings, keeping people away from students until they are cleared. Also, a way to automatically lock down areas of buildings to keep a potential threat isolated.
