Virginia Beach City Public Schools is evaluating a potential adjustment to school start times. Medical research points to the benefits of later start times for adolescents (age 11-17) due to significant changes in their sleep patterns. Information from the American Academy of Pediatrics is available for your review here. Additional literature related to school start times and academic achievement is also available for your review.
Therefore, you are asked to complete this brief survey. If you are a staff member with children enrolled in our schools, you will also have the opportunity to complete a parent survey on behalf of your family. The results of both surveys will be shared with the School Board during a workshop this spring and will be discussed in greater detail as part of the Board’s annual retreat in July 2017.
