What do you consider to be the top three priorities for funding?
As an advocate for VBCPS, what message points would you suggest we share with state legislators as we make our case?
VBCPS always makes huge sacrifices and "saves" money that we desperately need so that city employees can get fat pay raises and funding to do as they see fit.
VBCPS employees are equal to, not below City of Virginia Beach employees and should be compensated equally.
VBCPS is responsible for shaping the lives of "America's future" and need substantial funding to deliver on this responsibility.
What questions do you have about the VBCPS operating budget or what input would you like to offer leadership as we work to develop the budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year?
1. How important to you is it for your children, or a child who is close to you, to arrive safely at school and at home?
2. Why is it that the people directly responsible for this task-The Garage staff- have been an afterthought at best?
3. Why is it that the garage staff are grossly underappreciated and underpaid? The technicians invest huge amounts of money in tools to work. I personally have $30,000 or more invested in tools and tool box to perform my duties. Also, since the vast majority of fleet vehicles are buses and trucks that are diesel powered, we are not only Automotive Technicians, but more over Diesel Technicians which should be heavily considered during reclassification.
4. The garage employees have been overlooked for many years, and as an absolutely vital element in the safe travels of pupils and every single person who drives a school board vehicle, it should be a very high priority. Also, we must think of everyone on the road around these school board vehicles. They too, depend on the garage employees to maintain the vehicles to the highest standards. After all, if a problem with the vehicle caused an accident, the garage is thoroughly scrutinized and crucified.
5. What will it take for the garage operation to be taken seriously and appreciated? Will it take a tragic event, where some families are suing the schools for billions and consequently a smear campaign launched by the citizens and the media? Make the garage staff a true and high priority!
