The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors is seeking feedback from the public regarding the potential development of regulations to allow the growing of industrial hemp for commercial and research purposes. Please click here and scroll to the 2:00PM agenda item to watch a short video from the Tuolumne County Agricultural Commissioner regarding what is industrial hemp and how it is regulated in California.
Industrial hemp is from the plant species Cannabis sativa. Hemp is used in a variety of products such as CBD oil, paper, textiles, cosmetics and body care, food, fabric, and most recently a smokable version. Industrial Hemp looks and smells like cannabis. Industrial Hemp, however, is only allowed .3% THC levels. This low amount of THC does not produce a high or a sense of euphoria. Hemp when grown for fiber is grown up and close together, and is similar in appearance to corn. Although one can find and purchase products with CBD in them, it is currently illegal to sell products with CBD, derived from Industrial Hemp, within California.
Please take a few minutes to participate in our survey below. Information received from the public will help inform the Board of Supervisors about the public's interest and concerns regarding industrial hemp.
