The City is seeking input on the Fiscal Year 2022 programmed budget.

I'm not sure all the percentage math checks out here, but again this year I'll emphasize that to make a great budget I'd need to meet with many department leaders from the city and craft expenditures around their needs. Setting the exact percentages aside, what I'd like to see is major cuts to the Tucson Police budget in the areas of Patrol, Canine, Counter Narcotics, and Air Support. I would want more spent on transit, IT, and a steep increase in funding for housing. Thank you.

Tucson needs bold investments in technology, mass transit, and water conservation to be prepared for the future. Expansion of programs like free public wifi, sun link, and improvements to multimodal travel options are critical to smart growth and development.

A budget is a statement of values and priorities. I am removing some funds from police and other administrative services to allocate it to Parks & Rec, Housing, Transit and Mobility, Economic Initiatives, IT and other similar services. I think adding to those areas will help create less of a need for police and help redirect the services the police currently perform to departments more appropriate to handle them. I am looking at a Tucson for the future. I also am supportive of more resources at the City and State level beyond our city budget dedicated to Transit and Mobility, Parks and Rec, Climate Mitigation and Sustainability and Housing. Charging differential water rates will help address some of these issues as well, particularly the money required to repair, maintain and build new pipes.
