What additional comments or questions do you have regarding the 36th and La Cholla site?
If the City of Tucson reneges on its commitment to low density housing in this area, then its credibility on all issues will be diminished. We will never be able to believe the promises made by City representatives. The Tucson area is growing very rapidly. Development in this area will negatively impact the areas the City and County have already worked so hard to preserve like Tucson Mountain Park. I worked with Neil Stitzer on cleanup in the newly-designated San Juan area west of Mission and 36th Street, and just west of the Mission Sierra II apartments. Just over the wall from that development we pulled out more than two tons of trash, garbage and household discards in two days! High density development brings disregard for and abuse of our natural desert environs. Tucson's resources, especially water, are limited. We all have experienced the lack of rainfall especially over the last two years. High-density housing will accelerate the depletion of this precious resource. And we have all experienced the rising average temperatures. Our Aleppo Pines and even many of our native plants are suffering serious effects from climate change in Tucson. Development increases the "heat island" effect. Please preserve the desert areas we have left for generations to come. If possible, save this area from development all together. And if that is not accepted, then minimize the impact of all future development. Please! Keep the City's promises to its people!
