Provide feedback on a proposed Prevailing Wage Ordinance aimed at ensuring equitable compensation for workers on most City of Tempe construction projects where the contract value is $4 million or more. The updated proposal seeks to align wages and benefits with prevailing wage standards for the same work in the region and requires certified payroll to be filed weekly with the city.
Community members are encouraged to review the proposed draft ordinance and submit comments through April 16. After the public engagement process in April, the ordinance will be brought to the full Council for discussion and input at two public hearings ahead of a vote. The first public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at 6 p.m. in the Tempe City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth Street or virtual. The second public hearing and vote is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. in the Tempe City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth Street or virtual. The public can submit comments or request to speak at both hearings at tempe.gov/clerk.
A Prevailing Wage Ordinance is designed to establish wage standards for workers on most public construction projects. This ensures that laborers are compensated fairly, aligning their pay rates with prevailing industry standards in the geographical area. More information is available at tempe.gov/PrevailingWage.
