A Park Ranger program has been approved to launch this fall thanks to the City Council-approved budget for fiscal year 2023-24. Tempe Park Rangers will be full-time city employees and the community’s connection to our parks, preserves and green spaces. They will provide helpful resources and information, as well as education about park rules. They will not carry firearms and will have the ability to issue city citations, though their focus will be on education first.
Tempe had a Park Ranger program many years ago and it was discontinued then due to the types of severe budget cuts that all communities needed to make during the Great Recession. Now the City Council is bringing back the program with adjustments and improvements to make the service even better.
