The City of Sunnyvale is seeking input on a proposed law to reduce youth access to tobacco products by prohibiting the sale of flavored (fruit, candy, liquor, mint/menthol) tobacco products. Tobacco products include electronic cigarettes, electronic liquids, cigars, little cigars, cigarillos, hookah, smokeless tobacco, and mint/menthol cigarettes.
According to the County of Santa Clara - Public Health Department, more than one in ten youth in Santa Clara County currently use tobacco products, including electronic smoking devices. Nearly one in three Santa Clara County teens have tried an electronic cigarette. Nearly 81% of youth who use tobacco products report that the first product they used was flavored.
