Help shape Council district elections

The City is proposing to change from at-large elections for City Council seats to a district-based electoral system. District-based elections have the potential to increase diversity on the City Council and protect the City against California Voting Rights Act lawsuits.

After seeking extensive input from the community about the number of districts and how to select the mayor, the City Council decided to place a ballot measure for six Council districts and a directly-elected, at-large mayor on the March 2020 election.

Over the summer, we launched a community-driven map drawing process to determine the six Council district boundaries for Sunnyvale elections in November 2020 (should the March 2020 ballot measure succeed). A total of 26 community maps were submitted for consideration and Council has narrowed the options to 4 maps.

We are seeking your input on the four remaining maps under consideration. The City Council will use this input to narrow the map options and ultimately select a final map for the November 2020 Council election.
