Green Bike Box at Intersections
Buffered Bike Lanes
Green Bike Lane at Conflict Zones
High Visibility Crosswalks
Parking Restrictions near Intersections and Driveways
Comments / Other Suggestions for Location 1:
Shortening time for cars and increasing pedestrian crossing times may make cars more aggressive in crossing intersections fast when light is yellow. Improving visibility of bike traffic would remind drivers that there are others to look out for besides automobiles, Removing parking near intersections should improve sight lines to bikes and pedestrians. Narrower driving lanes will indicate to drivers that they should be driving slower.

Comments / Other Suggestions for Location 2:
Narrower lanes is the best way to slow down traffic and encourage drivers to pay better attention. Green and buffered bike lanes will remind drivers to look out for bikes and pedestrians and not just automobiles. Longer pedestrian times and shorter automobile crossing times at intersections will reduce efficiency at intersections and encourage more aggressive yellow light and red light runners. Cars will speed up to try to get into the intersection before the light turns red and then finish the turn/crossing after the light is already red.

Green and buffered bike lanes will remind drivers to look out for bikes and pedestrians and not just automobiles. Unfortunately longer pedestrian times and shorter automobile crossing times at intersections will just reduce efficiency at intersections and encourage more aggressive yellow light and red light runners. Cars will speed up to try to get into the intersection before the light turns red and then finish the turn/crossing after the light is already red. Cars on southbound Wolfe turning left onto eastbound Fremont block traffic behind them, causing cars to merge and go around them while in the intersection. Those cars may not see pedestrians. There shouldn’t be left turns allowed there and cars should find some other way to get to the last stretch of Fremont before Fremont merges into El Camino.

As a biker it can be difficult to merge into the left turn lanes when biking on Fremont because there are multiple lanes and the cars drive faster than the speed limit. Narrower lanes is the best way to slow down traffic and encourage drivers to pay better attention. Green and buffered bike lanes will remind drivers to look out for bikes and pedestrians and not just automobiles. Green bike lanes in conflict zones or separated bike ways may make it easier to merge into turn lanes for bikers. However, longer pedestrian times and shorter automobile crossing times at intersections will reduce efficiency at intersections and encourage more aggressive yellow light and red light runners. Cars will speed up to try to get into the intersection before the light turns red and then finish the turn/crossing after the light is already red.
