June 9, 2025, Public Hearing: Conditional Use Permit for John Bergess Cannabis Grow

John Bergess is requesting a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to operate a ½ acre outdoor cannabis growing operation.  The request is to locate the operation on a relative’s 40 acre farmstead in Section 32 of Blakeley Township, zoned A-1, Agricultural Preservation District.  A CUP is required for outdoor cannabis growing operation up to ½ acre in size.  The requested CUP is for the growing of cannabis only, no retail sales of cannabis products would take place on the property.

At the May Planning Commission meeting, the Commission recommended approval of an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance permitting the outdoor growing of up to ½ acre of cannabis in the A-1 district with a CUP.  The County Board approved that amendment on June 3^rd, and this is the first application for an outdoor cannabis grow.
