Section 7-4 of the Scott County Zoning Ordinance regulates Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). The intent of the Ordinance is to allow additional housing opportunities for large or extended families, family members infirmed or with disabilities, and/or elderly family members with a need for semi-independent living situations. The primary residence must be owner occupied and a number of performance standards related to size and appearance apply to the structure.
Attached ADUs are an administrative use in all of the agricultural and residential zoning districts. Detached ADUs are an interim use in all of the agricultural and residential zoning districts. Since 2013, the twenty-five approved ADUs are split nearly evenly between attached and detached units.
