Silicon Valley Power, the City of Santa Clara’s municipal electric utility, is exploring multiple options to expand renewable generation within the boundaries of the city. Community input is an important part of our decision-making process. One option we are considering is investing in a community solar project.
What is Community Solar?
Community solar is a solar project that is installed by a government entity, electric utility, developer or community group. The community solar project provides customers who otherwise cannot or do not want to install solar on their residence an opportunity to subscribe to a share of the community solar system. In exchange, subscribing customers receive the benefits of the electricity produced by the community solar project.
