Background:
The City is considering what types of changes could be made to the intersection at Third Avenue & Norfolk Street to improve safety and efficiency for pedestrians, bicycles, and drivers. We’re looking for community input on different design alternatives. In addition, the alternatives will include improvements at the Norfolk Street/San Mateo Creek intersection to facilitate a connection between the bike lanes on S. Norfolk and the Class 1 bike path adjacent to San Mateo Creek between Norfolk and J. Hart Clinton.
Prior to engaging with a design consultant, the City would like to solicit input from the community to better understand the challenges community members are facing when travelling through the intersection. The information gathered will be used to inform the design process and develop alternatives that address the identified safety concerns.
Projected Timeline/Next Steps:
-
The project, including design and final construction, is projected to be completed in the Summer of 2025.
-
The City is collecting community feedback and hiring a design firm to develop options for improvements.
-
There will be opportunity to provide public comments (late 2023 – early 2024) prior to final design selection.
The design phase is projected to extend into Summer/Fall of 2024 after which the approved design will go out to bid for construction.
