What types of improvements would you like to see made to the existing skatepark?
Shoreview skate Park is a very special, iconic skate park for the Bay Area skateboarding community a paragraph when it was first built. It set a new president for how skate parks should be built: some thing that feels open, inviting, inclusive, and for what majority of skateboarders are (Street Skaters, not skate park skaters)
Unfortunately, when the park was built, Whiting was left out due to noise concerns even though the basketball court turned out to be much louder than the skateboarding area.
Another unfortunate thing about the Chavez Skate Park is the size, its footprint is significantly smaller than the nearby amenities, such as the baseball field, basketball, courts, and tennis court.
in a dream world, we would get to expand into the tennis court since the tennis court is almost inactive
It feels only right for us to be able to move into that space given the fact that the skateboarding community was promised a third skate park over 20 years ago.
I do realize that there is a recent trend with Pickleball, and that now , they might have a chance to take care of the tennis court, but we have asked in the past to be able to expand of the tennis court or before pickle ball was ever a thing.
Another option would be to expand to the grass area in front of the basketball, courts, it would be a rather sustainable approach since grass is not the most sustainable thing given water restrictions.
We also need lighting for nighttime skateboarding desperately
People still skate there at night, and it’s not as safe as if it could be if there was proper lighting.
Lastly, the ground, it definitely needs to be redone. It’s very rough, uneven, and has huge cracks.
Are there any new features you would you like to see added to the existing skatepark?
If an expansion as possible, more flat, ground area, and more ledges
If you are a community member who doesn't plan on using the skatepark, are there any comments or thoughts that you would like to share?
