I like that the city of SLO is constantly looking for new ways they can improve their recreational facilities especially when they ask the community what they want.

In 20 years I hope to see a bike skills park or a pumptrack. While the SLO skatepark is amazing bikes are not allowed inside, this leaves cyclists who are looking to improve their skills nowhere to go. Without, a place to improve their skills cyclist end up building their own jumps that often violate private property and are not properly geometrically structured which lead them to be unsafe. In June of this year, I was riding my mountain bike at the non-profesionally built dirt jumps behind home depot in SLO. I ended up crashing and breaking my arm as well as getting a traumatic brain injury and concussion. I would hope to see either a dirt jump bike park similar to the park in Morro Bay or a tarmac pumptrack that could be open to bikes, skateboards, and scooters. Either of these solutions would lead to stronger bike infrastructure in the City of SLO. Another thing I would wish to see in 20 years would be more purpose-built mountain bike trails. Often times trails are built with hikers in mind rather than mountain bikers. As a mountain biker of San Luis Obispo, I would like to see more trails like The Eucs on the West Cuesta Ridge, The Eucs is an extremely popular spot in the mountain bike community of San Luis Obispo as it is closed to hikers and the trails are unidirectional another reason it is popular is that it has many fun features that help mountain bikers improve their skills. It would be amazing if there was another spot like The Eucs that was closer to the city centre of SLO. With a bike skills park, pumptrack, or more mountain bike specific trails the City of SLO would become a destination for cyclist all over California and overall boost the economy as well as the bike infrastructure of SLO.
