In March 2025, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) released an updated Fire Hazard Severity Zones Map, identifying more areas in the City of San Luis Obispo categorized as Moderate, High or Very High Fire Hazard Zones. City officials are reviewing Cal Fire’s updated map and the City must create a local version for adoption by City Council on June 17, 2025. Please note: The City cannot downgrade the severity zones identified by Cal Fire; we can only upgrade severity classifications based on local conditions and risk assessments.
The City is also required by law to make this information available to the pubic for review and comment in a format that is understandable and acccessible. To view this information, visit www.slocity.org/Prepare.
Please take this opportunity to provide your public comments before June 16, 2025.
