SLO City is leading by example on climate action. Learn more and share your thoughts on the City's plan for sustainable municipal operations!
The City of San Luis Obispo is excited to share a Public Review Draft of the Lead by Example 2025-29 Work Program for community discussion, learning, and feedback.
In SLO, climate change is causing more frequent wildfires, droughts, and extreme heat waves, putting local businesses and the health of residents at risk. Taking action at the local level is crucial to protect our way of life, preserve our natural resources, and ensure a stable economy for future generations. By supporting common-sense solutions that improve our quality of life today, we can safeguard San Luis Obispo for years to come.
We heard from you that the City needs to lead by example as we work together to cut climate pollution in our community. Because of your feedback, the City set an ambitious goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2030—5 years before our community-wide target. The 2021 Lead by Example Plan is the City's first strategic plan for reducing emissions from municipal operations. The City has made significant progress since 2021, and we hope to share the lessons learned along the way with residents, businesses, and other organizations working to reduce their carbon footprints.
