Want to provide feedback on upgrades to two San Luis Obispo Parks?
The City of San Luis Obispo is looking for community feedback for the upcoming Vista Lago Park and DeVaul Park Playground Equipment Replacement Project
The City of San Luis Obispo has started the design of projects that will replace the existing playground structures with new playground equipment within the existing space at Vista Lago Park and DeVaul Park.
Vista Lago Mini Playground, installed in 2001, is in the Laguna Lake area of San Luis Obispo, near Laguna Middle School bordering Prefumo Creek. Current amenities at Vista Lago Park includes picnic tables, bench seating and a playground. This project includes replacing the playground structures with equipment for children 2-5 years of age and 5-12 years of age within the existing space, add shade, replace seating around the playground and potentially add a hydration station.
DeVaul Park Playground, installed in 2002, is off Madonna Road and Spooner Drive near Irish Hills Trailhead in San Luis Obispo. Current amenities include a playground, picnic areas, bench seating, drinking fountain, lawn area and basketball court. This project includes replacing the playground equipment with equipment for 2-5 years of age and 5-12 years of age within the existing space, add shade, replace seating, and replace the hydration station.
The City follows industry best practices and allocates resources to address the life cycle of its playground equipment in parks. Replacing playground equipment in the City’s parks limits the City’s liability exposure and keeps the City in compliance with State regulations. In 1999, staff developed a plan to identify replacement of the City’s park playground equipment, which anticipates the useful life of the equipment to be assessed every 15 years.
