What can be done to enhance the community character of Sandpoint as a whole?
There are too many real estate offices on 1st and 2nd street. They push out restaurants and small businesses that would draw tourist into the area.
We need more events that draw people into the area. Especially in the fall/Winter. Lost In the 50's and the Festival are the only 2 events that really the only people in during the slow times. The ski mountain helps if we get good snow. We need to come up with something like Leavenworth did. Sandpoint is an amazing gem and it is under utilized.
What do you think could harm or change Sandpoint's community character?
Big box stores would be bad. Selling the open space on Boyer where the campus was. That was unfortunate. It was utilized by much of the public. Now it is gone. Creating things that will draw people to this area for tourism and moving here is good. You need to keep the small town feel though. More events during the slower, off season would be helpful.
