In June of 2022, the City Council of Redwood City adopted the Anti-Displacement Strategy (ADS), a crucial policy document that outlines our collective commitment to preserving and protecting affordable housing options in our community. The ADS serves as a guiding framework to help us achieve our goals of ensuring that everyone in Redwood City has access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. It outlines a range of policies and initiatives to proactively address the challenges of displacement and housing affordability.
As part of the ADS, the City Council directed staff to research additional policy ideas for further consideration. These include the exploration of an Anti-Harassment policy aimed at safeguarding tenants from unjust treatment and a policy that gives tenants the right-of-first return to a rental unit after being displaced due to renovations. These ideas hold the potential to provide further protections and support to our community members facing displacement and ensure a more equitable housing landscape.
We value your input and want to hear your thoughts on these policy ideas. Your perspectives, experiences, and suggestions are crucial in shaping effective and inclusive policies that meet the needs of Redwood City. We invite you to participate in a community survey designed to gather your feedback on these policy concepts. Survey input will be incorporated into the presentation to the City Council at a Study Session on July 24, 2023.
