The City of Redwood City is searching for a new Police Chief. Current Chief Dan Mulholland will retire in Spring 2023 after a nearly 40-year career in law enforcement. The City Manager appoints the Police Chief, and City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz is seeking community input on the skills, experience and characteristics needed in the next Police Chief. This Open City Hall survey is one way community members can share their thoughts; other opportunities are described here.
Redwood City's Police Chief oversees the daily operations for a department of 126 full-time positions, including sworn officers and civilian staff. The Police Chief reports to the City Manager and is a key member of the City's Executive Team. The Police Chief also meets regularly with the Police Advisory Committee and supports Police Department community engagement activities.
