At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the California State Public Health Officer designated grocery and drug store employees as essential workers to ensure the "continuity of functions to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security," and these workers have continued to report to work since the onset of the pandemic.
In recognition of the increased risk grocery and drugstore workers face in the workplace during this pandemic, the Redwood City City Council is seeking feedback from the community to determine if there is interest in implementing hazard pay in our city.
