Do you have a preference on how to cast your vote?

Provo City Council is considering two options for Provo residents to cast their votes in the 2017 municipal election. Provo City traditionally contracts with Utah County to conduct municipal elections. This year, Utah County has opted to administer a vote by mail election.

Read the information below about the two options and let us know which one you would prefer. 

Option 1: Ballots at polling locations

Cost                 $180,346

Process            Ballots available at 21 polling locations (by precinct)

                        Voter presents photo ID at polling location

                        Voter registration verified and voter signs the voter registration book

                        Ballot handed to voter

                        Voter places completed ballot in a sealed ballot box

                        Ballots run through optical scan machine at a central location to read and count the votes

Option 2:  Vote by mail

Cost                 $170.000

Process            Ballots are mailed to all registered voters (21 days before election)

                        Voters can mail ballot back or drop it off at designated locations

                        Voter must sign the ballot (with security flap covering signature) for it to count

                        Every ballot signature is verified with voter registration records

                        Election Day voting center (1 or 2 locations) allows voting in person or submitting mailed ballot

                        Voting in person negates mailed ballot (envelopes have bar codes for tracking)
