What do you think of a proposed plan to manage on-street parking in higher demand areas?

The Provo City Council is considering regulating parking in areas with higher demand for on-street vehicle parking which threatens the health, safety, and welfare of residents of Provo. Active management of on-street parking is needed to preserve the benefits of on-street parking and discourage the overuse of this public resource.

Council’s Parking Committee has proposed on-street parking management (OSPM) that would help balance the needs of residents and various visitors to the neighborhoods.

Here are the basic concepts involved:

• Determination of an OSPM area will start on the request of residents within the proposed area and/or City staff (similar to the current process for other parking permit areas throughout the city).
• Parking in a designated OSPM area would be managed with paid timed parking or paid timed parking with optional permits. Paid timed parking means that vehicles parked on the street in an OSPM area must pay the established rate.
• Enforcement practices will remain similar to current City policies with adjustments made for the specific needs of a timed parking program.
• This is not intended to regulate parking on private property.
