Municipal governments should not play a role in providing facilities that compete with private business. I would like to see the city divest itself of the rec center, Covey center and Peaks ice arena. These cost the city money and benefit a small subset of Provo citizens, and these services could be better provided by private business. I agree with the city maintaining parks, protecting environment and restoring the Provo River. Although agriculture is historical, it's no longer economically important to Provo and given a free market unencumbered by zoning and other restrictions, the land would be put to better uses, whether recreational, industrial or residential. It's time to embrace a modern version of Provo where agriculture is part of our history, not our present.

I agree with more mixed use and high-density zoning. Provo needs to allow growth and higher density.

I'm opposed to cities trying to manage housing mix through subsidies or incentives. The free market will arrive at the optimal solution if government imposed impediments are removed. I'm in favor of simplifying development process, allowing more ADUs, and expediting the reviews. These changes will naturally allow for more construction of lower priced housing if that's what the market demands.

I'm in favor of energy efficiency but only if it's cost effective. I don't think spending a lot of money to reduce carbon footprint is in our interest unless it has a positive return on investment within a few years. The added cost of most of these actions will make it more expensive to live and work in Provo.

We don't need government to incentivize electric vehicles. There will be a natural and rapid transition to electric when price comes down, and I expect that will be in the next 10 years whether or not government offers incentives or not.

I'm opposed to government choosing winners and losers in energy. There may be dozens of ways to generate cleaner and cheaper energy and government favoring wind and solar might be inhibiting the development of others like nuclear, or carbon-scrubbing tech, or any of a number of other innovations.

I'm opposed to preserving agricultural land. I'm also opposed to ordinances requiring caps on parking or arbitrary requirements about planting trees.

I'm opposed to ordinances requiring a certain percentage to be recycled. These are the kinds of arbitrary rules that kill development and make any kind of change prohibitively expensive.

Charge a market rate for water. People will conserve when it hits them in the pocketbook.

Open City Hall is not a certified voting system or ballot box. As with any public comment process, participation in Open City Hall is voluntary. The responses in this record are not necessarily representative of the whole population, nor do they reflect the opinions of any government agency or elected officials.
