  • GOAL 1: KEEP PORTLAND COMPETITIVE
    • Create opportunities for education and economic growth; add a net gain of jobs in the region. - 5 - Very important
  • What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?

There should be an economic and educational component to this space and I'd challenge you to see if there's a new model that provides real world learning and business growth. The R&D model reliant on the universities is a 20th century model. Maybe there is a way to create an R&D institution unique from universities and businesses that provides research opportunities for graduates through startup business endeavors. So, this could be a partnership between educational institutions (PNCA & UO are in the neighborhood and OHSU & PSU are only a few light rail stops away) and local business/startup/entrepreneur communities.
Universities (particularly tech transfer organizations) incubators/accelerators, entrepreneurial support organizations, entrepreneurs, college graduates

  • GOAL 2: KEEP PORTLAND ACCESSIBLE
    • Leverage regional assets and public benefits to enhance quality of life for Portlanders. - 5 - Very important
  • What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?

Add to the tax base and make this a destination place not reliant on one type of use. Even being a huge sports fan, I encourage you not to put a sports stadium here.

  • GOAL 3: KEEP PORTLAND CONNECTED
    • Strengthen multimodal transportation connections; enhance the public realm to improve accessibility and create vibrant public spaces and recreational opportunities. - 5 - Very important
  • What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?

There are good public transit connections. Ensure they are not compromised and create "green" linkages between waterfront, park blocks, and Jameson Square/Tanner Springs/The Fields.

    Parks, transportation, neighborhood residents/businesses

  • GOAL 4: KEEP PORTLAND HEALTHY
    • Develop the site so that it reflects high-quality construction, resource sharing, environmentally-friendly practices and social responsibility. - 4
  • What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?

    See above.

  • GOAL 5: KEEP PORTLAND ACCOUNTABLE
    • Create an implementable strategy that attracts private investment and delivers appropriate public benefit. - 2
  • What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?

When I see strategy I think this will be a multi-year approach. I'd rather see a 2-3 month effort focused on identifying the vision with guidelines we put in place to accomplish that and then act on that vision.

Create a unique space that adds to our tax base, involves public and private sector as well as residents, pushes the envelope of what's possible, and shows Portland is a world class city. That's all.

The Framework Plan will provide a strategic vision for the broader study area and development concepts for the USPS site. Five goals or guiding principles will shape the strategic vision for redevelopment within the study area. Together, the consultant team, stakeholder advisory team and technical advisory team are exploring the following five draft goals and discussing examples of their implementation.

Please review the following draft goals and provide us with your feedback. Are we on the right track? How might these be implemented? Did we miss anything?

NOTE: After you submit the survey, you will be asked to sign up or log in so that your response (with or without your name) can be posted on the forum for others to see. While we encourage you to share your ideas on the website, this part is not required. We will still receive your feedback even if you choose not to sign up or post your ideas online.
