Create opportunities for education and economic growth; add a net gain of jobs in the region. - 5 - Very important
What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?
Make Portland business friendly by lowering fees, regulations and taxes. Make Portland a clean and safe place to be. Citizen advisory committee to City Council.
GOAL 2: KEEP PORTLAND ACCESSIBLE
Leverage regional assets and public benefits to enhance quality of life for Portlanders. - 3
What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?
The question is not specific enough about "regional assets" and "public benefits" for one to give a decent response.
GOAL 3: KEEP PORTLAND CONNECTED
Strengthen multimodal transportation connections; enhance the public realm to improve accessibility and create vibrant public spaces and recreational opportunities. - 4
What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?
Until Portland is clean and safe our public spaces will continue to be full of homeless people. Very undesirable. Not a nice place to live and to work. Use my property tax dollars which are given to the PDC for a real "urban renewal" by cleaning up what's already here.
GOAL 4: KEEP PORTLAND HEALTHY
Develop the site so that it reflects high-quality construction, resource sharing, environmentally-friendly practices and social responsibility. - 3
What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?
We must weigh the costs and the benefits. This is getting to be a VERY expensive place to live. Only the rich and the subsidized poor will afford to live here. The middle class is being taxed out of town.
GOAL 5: KEEP PORTLAND ACCOUNTABLE
Create an implementable strategy that attracts private investment and delivers appropriate public benefit. - 5 - Very important
What can we do to make this happen? Who should be involved?
Private investment will follow when the city is clean and safe and business friendly. The public will benefit from the resultant jobs.
Is there anything that we have missed? Please share your thoughts below:
The City needs to be accountable to the taxpayers. Stop wasting our money! Has anyone in our city government ever run a business in Portland? We have to work REALLY hard and and be very frugal to be able to live here. It's disheartening to see the PDC make bad loans and real estate deals and the Water Bureau build extremely over-budget "iconic" buildings and lose money on "water houses." All of this done with my hard-earned property taxes and water bill payments. I don't know how much longer I can afford to live here.
