Take a look at the electronic newsletter sent out by John's Creek. It's a great model for all cities to emulate.

Electronic Newsletters are a great way to pass along information as it is updated. It can be read at anytime or discarded within a matter of seconds. I would like to see the current status of our Alpharetta Parks be made available when they change status. Are you expecting relatives sometime soon and would like to take your family to a baseball field in Alpharetta and hit the ball around? You couldn't, if the park was closed, under construction, or already rented out by someone else. This happened to my family last summer. My father in law came for a visit from Chicago and wanted to play soccer with his grandkids. It took us 2 days to find an available soccer field! And that was after many emails were sent out to the Alpharetta Rec and Parks about open fields. There should be a listing of availabe parks and fields online or communicated to the public so WE can use them-the citizens of Alpharetta, the people paying for the parks. Well, my father in law is visiting again next week. Does anyone know if our family will be able to play soccer together in an Alpharetta Park?

Whatever service that is used for Enews, make sure the entire piece can be printed so it can be read away from the computer. Some services limit the amount you can read and you must click READ MORE to see the rest of a story, then when you click on READ MORE for another story, that other READ MORE that was opened closes up. This does not give the reader the option of going to an easy chair or share it with someone, unless it is via email. Constant Contact is the system I use to create Enews and it works well.

I like Surveys
The online surveys like for the Plaza is a good tool + worthwhile- BUT folks do not know about it- with only about 60 folks using it. FaceBook is not the best internet tool to build from. Surveys- integrated with a user interface for Surveys should be possible? Printed media should be available but on a minimum print number. It's amazing what print material can communicate vs digital media- plus Alpharetta has a sizable older population to consider.

I like Social Media
I would like to suggest that the City of Alpharetta create a Facebook page for itself. I could elaborate more but these statistics attest to it:
https://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?statistics
Although I have residency in Georgia, I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The City of Minneapolis and the City of Saint Paul both have excellent Facebook pages through which the cities communicate with their respective residents and advertise events and disseminate various crucial and non-crucial information.
My mother lives in what is now John's Creek and I absolutely love coming back to Alpharetta. SO many great neighborhoods and amazing roads. Because of all of its greenery, Alpharetta could cash in on bicycling which is a growing trend both here in the Twin Cities and across the nation and Facebook would be a great way to share and receive public opinion about things like that.
Thanks!

Continue and expand the communication tools already on your website.
Open City Hall is not a certified voting system or ballot box. As with any public comment process, participation in Open City Hall is voluntary. The positions in this record are not necessarily representative of the whole population, nor do they reflect the opinions of any government agency or elected officials.
