Vote for your favorite skate park design!
Montgomery Parks wants your feedback on which skate park option you prefer for the future skate park at Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park.
Two concepts for the skate park were developed by Spohn Ranch Skateparks, a Los Angeles-based design/build firm with more than 30 years of experience. The concepts were developed based on extensive community feedback. The design which receives the most votes will be posted on the project page and construction documents will be finalized. Montgomery Parks anticipates the skate park will be completed and open to the public in the spring of 2025.
Concepts:
After the analysis of the October community meeting feedback and the results from the county-wide skate park survey, it was clear that the desired design direction for the Ovid Hazen Wells skate park would be street/plaza. This design incorporates a proper bowl feature and provides a different experience than the surrounding skate parks. Both concepts hit the nail on the head but do so in different ways so that they provide different experiences for skateboarders, bikers, in-line skaters, and scooters alike.
Both concepts have the same style of kidney bowl, however:
- Option 1 has more of a traditional skate park layout with its perimeter flow, which has a good purposeful circuit style directional design, and provides good lines of site and space for users to avoid collisions.
- Option 2 is a bit more modern and free form leaving the user open to interpret the skate park in their own way.
While both options include all the standard features for a street/plaza-style park, option 2 has some more unique aspects to it.
Take the survey and let us know which design option you prefer! The survey will be open until April 5, 2024. For more information visit the project page.
