In late 2021 M-NCPPC purchased a one-acre property (formerly National Tire and Battery) in downtown Silver Spring with the intent of demolishing the building and constructing the first phase of an active urban recreational park. The site located at 1110 East-West Hwy, Silver Spring, MD, 20910, is in the process of being prepared for demolition.
The vision for this park is an active recreation space that can serve as a complement to the historic and contemplative setting of Acorn Urban Park. Montgomery Parks will be implementing the first phase of the proposed South Silver Spring Park with multiple spaces for active recreation such as a multipurpose court (basketball, soccer, volleyball, other) and exercise area; play such as games (ping pong, corn hole, bocce), playground, and nature play area; and social interaction such as a community plaza and terrace. The park's first phase is expected to be opened in 2023.
During this time, the park planning will continue and will be informed in part by community feedback through this Open Town Hall survey.
Please complete this survey to share your thoughts about the project and your preferences for amenities. This information will help Montgomery Parks to shape the design of the new park. For more information, visit mocoparks.org/SSSP
