Please tell us your thoughts on the concept plan above and how it will impact your usage of Long Branch-Garland Park.
Currently my organization, ANS, has partner up with the local social non profit organization called CHEER to provide free community outreach events to Long Branch families. We have conducted nature walks, creek critters explorations, non-profit fairs, picnics and walks with Parks/Planning/Elected officials. The areas we have used the most are the playground and the picnic lawn area. Since all of our programs are outdoors - especially due to covid - and since the community center is closed, not having access to this and other Long Branch parks would not be ideal and hinder our long term community engagement events.
Please share any ideas for park improvements or amenities you would like to see in Long Branch-Garland Park.
Having more tree shade cover/ shelter picnic area will be ideal. We would like to emphasize the use of native plants for the design, maintenance, and stormwater control. We also need more trash and recycling bins. Since the majority of residents in this area speak Spanish or Aramaic, it would be helpful to have interpretive signage in these languages. CHEER conducts a weekly food distribution at the near by New Hampshire states school - it would be super helpful for Parks staff to go in person and ask these questions to people there and at Rolling Terrace Elementary School. Doing more in person meetings at different times, including evenings and weekends, showing up at other community events and just talking with community members would be super helpful to get feedback. At the end of Domer ave perhaps you can install a tree safe garden, pollinator garden or a community garden too. If doing any trail upgrades - using permeable pavement for stormwater would be ideal. Adding more trees for providing urban shade and stormwater control also a plus.
