Thank you for involving the community in your decision making process regarding the paved extension of Longbranch trail.
I have lived in this area for 25 years and my backyard opens into the area where the trail and new bridge are being proposed.
I am against the building of the paved trail for all the reasons my neighbors have stated in their comments.
This beautiful natural habitat needs a lot of attention and maintenance! Almost every time we have a strong storm, we lose a tree, and water pools in the area. But getting this support from the park service shouldn't be contingent upon us agreeing to a paved trail that is not needed, whixh will have many detrimental effects.
Bikers, walkers, and dogs do not mix! My 3 kids grew up in this area and I now also have a dog, so I have experience being all three. I walk in the proposed area every day, multiple times a day, and there is peacefulness in being in this unpaved area that would be lost.
The ground is covered in cicada holes, because there is no concrete in their way. Dogs love to explore and play with each other without the fear of bikes coming through. There is no need for a new bridge here. I agree with the teacher who pointed out that the bridge by the park at Domer is the one that needs work instead! It is so narrow rhat its scary to bike across it, and it is transited by many children and adults in that area. I agree there is an equity issue there.
As far as the original intent of the project, if you really need a bike lane, the best area would be on the gravel area between the creek and longbranch parkway, which connects the trail to the crosswalk and flashing lights at Carroll.
