Should the Council approve the agenda item? Yes
Is there anything you would like the Council to consider regarding this item? I was horrified to discover a dead bird in front of my window. This is 100% preventable, but I didn't believe it would really happen!

Should the Council approve the agenda item? Yes
Is there anything you would like the Council to consider regarding this item? Please support the proposal to include residential (44% of all strikes occur at residential). Please support the decision to remove the option of having a Qualified Biologist as a compliance pathway. Please support the decision to apply the ordinance from 0' to 100' (instead of a lower height). Between 100,000 and 600,000 birds die from window collisions every year in Berkeley, just from the currently existing buildings, more than half of those fatalities are from small buildings with fewer than five units. This rate is unsustainable and is part of what is driving the extreme decline of songbirds in North America. Having a robust ordinance will spur the supply chain and serve as a beacon to other cities.

Should the Council approve the agenda item? Yes
Is there anything you would like the Council to consider regarding this item? I ask that the council members approve the ordinance as written and not dilute its requirements at the behest of developers who are worried about their bottom lines. A huge amount of thought and time has gone into the ordinance; if adopted, this will be another area in which Berkeley is providing national leadership on an important conservation issue.
