We've heard you - you want more live-work-play opportunities right here in our City. Help us develop an economic growth strategy that's right for Tamarac!

Thank you for participating!

We’ve enjoyed hearing from you on this forum and at the in-person workshop.

We’ve learned that many of you are looking for places of gathering and socializing within our City, such as restaurants and fast-casual restaurants.  You also noted that Tamarac has some opportunities for storefront façade and landscape enhancements to help attract visitors, new residents and unique businesses.

As you may know, the City has actively pursued projects to help create several centers of attraction - Tamarac Village and Colony West Redevelopment are in the works!

Tamarac Village

Tamarac City Commission has recently approved a site plan for the City’s new downtown which is envisioned to offer a variety of dining and service options and a public park with an amphitheater for entertainment. You may watch the presentation to learn more about this project at http://tamaracfl.swagit.com/play/03282018-625/14/ (presentation begins at 8-minute mark).

Colony West

We recently had a ground-breaking at Colony West, where the clubhouse will be redeveloped into a brand new modern facility and our partners will be building a new Marriot Fairfield Inn Hotel, all while preserving the existing golf course.

We’re also working on the citywide plan to update the public landscaping.  And we’ve began celebrating homeowners and commercial property owners who take pride in beautifying their properties (Click here to make a nomination).

Of course, this is just the beginning!  As we are working on developing the economic development strategy, our consultant has brought in the developer community to solicit feedback on what it takes to improve the unappealing commercial areas. Things we’ve heard from you and other stakeholders will help us to further explore economic development and revitalization opportunities in the City. We’ll be looking into things such as more creative business programming solutions, raising awareness of unique ethnic food establishments in Tamarac, shop local or tourist-friendly entertainment and marketing programs.

Once the strategy is solidified, it will be incorporated into the City’s Comprehensive Plan – the long-term guiding document that defines the standards for development and related regulations in the City. The first City Commission hearing of this Comprehensive Plan Amendment will take place on May 23, 2018. At that time, the City Commission will vote whether to transmit the Amendment to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for review (to meet the grant requirements).  After we receive their comments, if any, we’ll hold a second City Commission hearing to adopt the it.

We typically make the proposed legislation available to the public 3 days before the meeting, so be sure to check out our Commission Meeting Agenda site. You are always welcome to attend the City Commission meetings and speak about the proposals.

Thanks again for your input! We are excited about furthering Economic Development that enhances resident quality of life in our City.
