Tamarac’s Public Art Committee has a new project in their plans: an annual event consisting of displaying approximately 10 sculptures along Nob Hill Road, between West McNab Road and Commercial Boulevard. Once the artists are selected, the sculptures will be displayed for one year. We expect to see the first installations in fall 2016. The Committee plans to engage the community in selecting the best sculpture from those displayed that year.
Artists will receive a $1,500 stipend to cover the expenses involved in loaning the work for the one year it’s on exhibit. A $1,000 cash award will be given to one artist at the end of that year based on community votes. Funded by art fees paid for by developers for development and redevelopment, this project will:
- Enhance the quality of life for Tamarac residents
- Promote the City of Tamarac as a cultural destination
- Increase awareness and understanding of public art
- Provide a showcase for local, regional and national artists.
Before the sculptures are selected, the Public Art Committee would like to engage the creative minds in our community in naming this art project. Do you have an idea? Post it below by clicking on the “Add your name suggestion” button by September 19. The winner will receive a $50 Tamarac Gift Card that can be used for art, pottery or other classes provided by Parks and Recreation and will be mentioned at the grand opening event.*
Be part of the art!
*The Public Art Committee reserves the right to propose an alternative project name, in which case the gift card will be awarded to one of the participants via a random drawing. Only suggestions publicly posted on this site by Tamarac residents will be eligible. If you have questions about how to post your suggestion publicly, please contact [email protected].
