The City of Tamarac plans to begin designing the new Waters Edge Park in 2017. What amenities would you like to see in this park?

A park with exercise trails, picnic tables and maybe a fountain. LOTS and LOTS of trees - but shade trees please - skin cancer is on the rise.
Maybe a structure near the water as well to walk and then stop and ponder. Forget the courts as we have those elsewhere. No dogs - they have a park. A small interactive playground on the property, but furthest away from the water.

I would love to see a playground for kids, exercise circuit, tennis courts and racquetball courts…

What I would NOT like to see is basketball courts.

Lots of trees. The slogan says "Tree City USA", but I don't see a lot of trees in our parks. Palm trees do NOT provide shade. If possible a tennis court. The name of the park suggest that there is water nearby so I hope there will be water. Thank you.

Sand volleyball court; water feature; and plenty of shade trees.

Hi. I love the features already in place, I would suggest a handball court.

Yes to involve the canal and lots of shade with walkways, but don't forget our native friends of wildlife and birds which will provide entertainment while hanging out on the benches. I recommend that all plantings be a variety of only native growth and at some point access to the canal by a gentle slope that allows wading birds and turtles access to both land and water.
By planting native, maintenance and watering is kept to a minimum and this park can use some cost cutting measures as it sounds like a lot of grass cutting and edging. Avoid the edging and plant edges of native grasses. It is a passive park, so be innovative and create areas that are more natural, that do not need the sound of mowers or grounds crew.

A passive park with walking/jogging trails, a large fountain as a focal point, lots of mature trees for shade, with benches near the fountain, and picnic tables and benches by the waters edge. The park should cater to adults since it's not safe for children to be alone near the canal. No basketball courts or volley ball as there are other parks for that. Install public art sculptures instead.

I suggest adding a labyrinth for walking meditation. A labyrinth is not a maze, but a walking meditation device with a single winding path from the edge to the center. There are no tricks, choices or dead ends in a labyrinth walk. The same path is used to return to the outside.

While some labyrinths around the world are very ornate, for a city park it would be just as useful being constructed of grass & gravel (or paved walkway) so it is easy to maintain as well as resistant to the inevitable running of children's feet across the space. See attached photo.

Ideally the labyrinth would be situated in a shady, quiet area (not next to ball courts). In addition to being a meditative aid, it is also useful for elderly people who want to spend time walking, but don't want to get too far afield of emergency assistance, if needed. So placing it reasonably close to the parking area would also be useful.

In addition to being attractive to look at, the beauty of a labyrinth is that is supplies a lot of walking distance in a small amount of square yardage.

Shade trees lining a walking/jogging path throughout the park.

Outdoor Fitness equipment, along with a marked walk/jog path, would benefit young and old alike. Don't forget the water fountains and restrooms. No-wall shade structures with benches, not just trees. I like the remote control pond idea too! A splash park for toddlers. A place for meditation and/or yoga with a view of the water? Too many ideas for six acres!
