I live right next to Westlake Park (on the east side of the field). I love having this resource available and it's great to have a place to walk the dog, talk to the neighbors or spin a hot lap at the BMX track. The proposed plan for the actual park looks kinda OK. The Dirt Concern put in a massive amount of effort to re-do the dirt jumps in 2016 so why would the city want to wipe it out? Also, it would be great if the city could put a fence around the community garden. This will help with dogs and deer in the garden and keep everyone happy (well, maybe not the deer).
Otherwise, the performance stage looks pretty cool. I don't mind the noise in the evenings (I hear the BMX race announcer clear as day during the summer) but it would be great if the stage had a strict No Bluegrass policy.
Parking and formal bathrooms would be a great idea too.
What about a city beer garden? That would be cool.

I know that a lot of time and resources went into constructing the existing mountain bike dirt jumps. Couldn't the design preserve that area and put the stage area further east? Also, as far as sound concerns *north* is the direction pointing out over an empty field, all the other directions have residents.

This would provide bicycle and pedestrian connectivity from Centennial Park and neighborhoods east of Westlake Park and would be part of a bicycle boulevard connection along the Aspen St corridor.

I'd like to see some diversity in the skills area, with an easy to moderate pump track in addition to larger jumps.Retain the existing jumps as long as possible, as these jumps were just built.

A fun narrow playful perimeter trail is needed for small children learning to ride mountain bikes and strider bikes. Trails like this, at a childs scale, are a big hit in other communities. Take a hard look at modifying the 6' perimeter path to include a fun narrow trail for children, in addition to the 6' path. Please retain the existing new dirt jumps as long as possible, as these are new and haven't been used for even one full summer yet.

As a homeowner of the mid-town neighborhood, I think park infrastructure such as this is a necessary component of any outdoor-minded community.

I've been a resident since 1999 and frequented the BMX park from day one. I met many of my closest friends and colleagues in that community and have seen first hand the mentorship that casually exists in places like these.

As a kid, I went to BMX areas such as this and learned much from the older generations on the importance of community, work ethic, maturity, and treating others with respect. These were all things that one would rarely learn from their peers in middle or high school. I've seen young kids go from what some would identify as near lost causes caught up in their adolescent and family struggles to some of the most giving, community-focused, family-minded successful entrepreneurs as adults.

Without places like these in our world, I personally would have never been pushed to attend a prestigious design school. I would have never moved to a place like Bozeman, where I could be a step closer to nature and surrounded by a like-minded community that respects where they live. I wouldn't have gained all the experience as a builder of human-focused ideas in the design world here that pushed me to lead the founding of the Dirt Concern, which is the namesake in the plans for the MTB area, to make sure we don't lose the importance of all I've mentioned previously. I wouldn't have wanted to go further with the added push of my wife and best play buddy, to take a leap and start a successful bicycle shop here with a great friend that focuses more closely on community and customer service than on sales. The community that continues to build is so incredibly inspiring.

It's been interesting in find in further research in a project I've been casually working on - a strong correlation to those that grew up doing these type of outdoor recreation activities (along with climbing, skiing, surfing, etc...) where one learns self confidence through hard work, focus, patience, failure, and taking calculated risks - that they are the ones later in life who aren't afraid in business or whatever they do to take those calculated risks because they know what they're capable of accomplishing, however knowing intrinsically there's a limit to the risks one can take before they are life-altering. You'll find 10-fold more success stories that have helped contribute to what's good in the world from a Montanan's eye (at least in my point of view) than stories of burning-out.

Long-story long, I hope I can give an inside perspective into just how important and abundant places like these should be. Places where recreating outside with others and getting dirty is recognized as almost medicine, and gives healthy perspective into what hard-work, determination, and community brings ourselves and those around us.

It would be great to have the park cleaner and more utilized. Currently it accumulates trash and xmas trees. It could be so much more! I would love to see it modeled after beall park. Maybe have a small venue that can be rented out and utilized by area residents. The bmx pump track is excellent and glad to see that is staying in the plan. I'm not sure why the existing dirt jumps need to be moved since they were just rebuilt 4 months ago. A lot of effort, time, and sweat went into those jumps. An outdoor music venue would be enjoyed by many. My one concern is the neighborhood surrounding the park. With the midtown revival movement, will the neighborhood be cleaned up? There is all sorts of low-income housing nearby. Not saying this is bad, but upper echelon Bozemanites avoid this neighborhood like the plague. Will the preexisting condition of this neighborhood plague the future usability of the park? Will it be worth the money and effort put in? I live in this neighborhood and absolutely want this plan to happen. I just think more info needs to be included to know exactly what this part of town will become in the future.
