Community Conversations at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library
Throughout the year, the Virginia Beach Public Library hosts Community Conversations at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library. These are small group conversations about topics of local and national interest. For future planning, please share your ideas for possible future topics.
Of the top five topics you rated highest, why are these important to you?
I am concerned that Virginia Beach City will go with the national trend of eroding moral values thereby promoting financial backing for so-called "war on women" & other "freedoms".
Immigration policy as it stands today is unworkable.
I think we need regional transportation like light rail and we need to pay attention to how the rail can be accessed--favor competition in local bus transportation instead of total monopoly of HRT.
After telephoning VA Beach City offices after a particularly damaging storm, I was told that there was no provision for funds to collect debris and/or mitigate problems of citizens after storms.
Sea level rise is an absolute fact as evidenced by a meeting in recent months in Norfolk detailing losses the City of Norfolk & Naval bases already have. The policy of VA Beach City in building anything in the Beachfront area is shortsighted and an endangerment to residents who will be in the path of the next hurricane.
If not listed above, what topics would you like to see discussed?
Why, given the so-called magnificent tax base touted by our city, is the "water bill" nearly $200 a month, when actual water usage is far below that. I was told it was for infrastructure repair, trash collection, etc. Perhaps a better explanation of "storm water" fund usage is needed.
Taxation on every single thing in the City from food to entertainment to utilities.
