Community Conversations at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library
Throughout the year, the Virginia Beach Public Library hosts Community Conversations at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library. These are small group conversations about topics of local and national interest. For future planning, please share your ideas for possible future topics.
Of the top five topics you rated highest, why are these important to you?
Guns/violence - we need REAL solutions
Racial tensions haven't hit us full blast like other places, but why wait -- let's build relationships & partnerships NOW before the situations nationwide affect us more directly.
Religious freedom is too often brushed aside as belonging to the fanatics. I am especially concerned about city policies that restrict religious displays yet allow others such as LGBT because it's the hot topic for political correctness. Discover a balance so that they are addressed with equal importance. It's a touchy subject, but it needs to be addressed.
Energy affects our future. We need sustainability.
Immigration affects every aspect of our communities and city government. Discover how much impact & if it is an immediate concern or something for further down the road. Either way address it and make a plan.
If not listed above, what topics would you like to see discussed?
Backyard chickens -- tell city council to stop avoiding the topic.
Environmental policy & our city's impact on the environment - non-native landscape planting, mosquito spraying that kills bees and other beneficial insects, waterways, run-off and canal-side properties, and MUCH more.
