In February, the city contracted with local firm Waller, Todd & Sadler Architects for the formal design of the Housing Resource Center to be located at 104 N. Witchduck Road in the Pembroke Strategic Growth Area. Since mid-March, the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation has been working with city agencies, service providers, the faith community and other stakeholders to determine the types of facilities to be offered at the Housing Resource Center; this process also included design charrettes on May 6-9. This Virtual Town Hall is to provide the opportunity for citizens to comment on the proposed design for the Housing Resource Center.
A Housing Resource Center is part of our community plan to do a better job of ending homelessness and to:
- Meet federal requirements
- Expand services being offered at the Lighthouse Center to include families
- Provide a central assessment center with more capability
- Provide new shelter or housing options that reduce and shorten homelessness
In June 2012, the City Council authorized the purchase of the site at 104 N. Witchduck Road as a possible location for a Housing Resource Center. Part of that site was needed for the Witchduck Road widening project. Funding for the design phase of the Housing Resource Center was approved as part of the city’s 2013-14 budget.
