Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is in the process of planning future improvements at Bayville Farms Park. Bayville Farms Park is a 68-acre park located at 4132 First Court Road, adjacent to Bayside Recreation Center, in the Northwest portion of Virginia Beach. Due to the growing demand for off-leash dog areas in the City, a dog park is being designed for this location.
The current design standard for dog parks provides two, one-acre fenced areas for both small and large dogs to socialize and run together. Only one, one-acre section at each dog park is open for public use at any given time in order to rotate both fenced areas for adequate turf management. This design has been implemented in existing off-leash dog areas at Red Wing Park and Woodstock Park (pictured).
We are considering an alternative design that would create separate areas for small and large dogs. Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation requests your input on the design for the dog park at Bayville Farms Park so that we can best meet the needs of park visitors.
Should the dog park design at Bayville Farms Park follow the current design standard of one area for all dogs, or would you prefer separate areas for large and small dogs?
The funding for the construction of this amenity will be part of the Capital Improvement Program for FY13-14. Anticipated opening of the dog park at Bayville Farms Park is Spring 2014.
