When you think about a new Lubber Run Community Center, what do you envision yourself doing there?
As seniors, ages 66 and 70 plus, my wife and I are excited about being able to engage in the activities we now have to drive to Walter Reed CC, Langston-Brown, TJ etc. to participate in. Namely, sports, pickleball, fitness classes, weight room, etc.
We don't currently participate at Lubber Run beacuse there are none (or may one?) of these kinds of activities there.
Do you or members of your household currently participate in activities at the Lubber Run Community Center?
No
If yes, approximately how often do you or members of your household visit the Lubber Run Community Center?
Few times per year
What types of spaces and uses should the new Lubber Run Community Center have?
A gym, fitness rooms, community meeting rooms, maybe a coffee or light cafe space for socializing, wifi or computer access for all ages groups. Long shot, we know, but maybe space for performances, such as music, theater, film as when the LR amphitheater is not available due to weather or in the winter.
When you think about the immediate area surrounding a new Lubber Run Community Center, what type of spaces and uses should be accommodated on the site?
Playground for kids, easy access to the walking trail through the park and the amphitheather. It is most important to preserve the open greenspace at this park. A multi-story housing complex (affordable housing or not) wheather on, over, adjacent to the community center in this park is certainly NOT appropriate and is a cannabilizing of the park and a betrayal by highjacking the reason for a new LRCC and our park system. Arlington Mill CC is not a model for the LRCC! Arl Mill, for those who care to look, is in a busy commercial area surrounded by multi-story apt. buildings. Lubber Run CC is in a wooded park bordered by traditional single-family detached homes.
In what ways can a new Lubber Run Community Center have an impact on the community?
It can serve to increase health, fitness and socializing of all age groups and thereby aid in building community.
Do you have a favorite community center in Arlington? If so, which center and why is it your favorite?
I like Walter Reed for the gym and the fitness room and Langston-Brown for the weight room. Both of these (and Madison), also have some interesting classes in card playing, dance, movies, music, etc.
What is your home zip code?
22203
