When you think about a new Lubber Run Community Center, what do you envision yourself doing there?
Yoga, aerobics and attending community meetings/activities. We used the facility a lot when my children were young -- music classes, playgroups -- but opportunities for activities that would attract middle schoolers and high schoolers were limited as they aged. It would be nice to see classes that attract a broader age range there.
Do you or members of your household currently participate in activities at the Lubber Run Community Center?
No
If yes, approximately how often do you or members of your household visit the Lubber Run Community Center?
No response.
What types of spaces and uses should the new Lubber Run Community Center have?
Space for classes, basketball courts, meeting rooms that could be reserved or rented for local groups.
When you think about the immediate area surrounding a new Lubber Run Community Center, what type of spaces and uses should be accommodated on the site?
Outdoor green space for picnics, parties and playgrounds should be preserved and enhanced. A larger playground would also be great as the existing one is a major draw to the surrounding area. Lubber Run sits in a very densely populated area -- one that is going to grow even more in the next few years as existing projects are completed -- so I can't see housing working there as it would add more people to an area already bursting at the seams for recreation space. Community Centers should be right-sized, integrating into neighborhoods rather than trying to be all things to all people and all constituencies. Housing on the site would mean more people, more cars and an increased demand for parking. Where would these cars go? Underground in an area adjacent to a Chesapeake Bay watershed? Right-sized is key to the success of a new Lubber Run.
In what ways can a new Lubber Run Community Center have an impact on the community?
By providing more outdoor space that allows for gatherings, picnics and play, Lubber Run could provide the community sorely needed green spaces in which to come together. I'm not opposed to the County housing its Parks and Recs offices there provided the size of the building remained appropriate to the small footprint
